How to Delete Collection Agencies and Bad Credit Items
Collection agencies are private for-profit organizations that collect debt either for themselves or on behalf of a third-party creditor. Collection agencies typically collect both secured and unsecured debt including, among other things, auto, boat, or motorcycle loans, credit cards, retail debt, medical debt, student loans, business debt, commercial or residential property debt, government debt, e.g. unpaid taxes. Additionally, collection agencies may enforce property seizure proceedings including repossession or foreclosure proceedings.
Some of the largest collection agencies include NCO Financial, Cavalry Portfolio Services, Allied Interstate, and LVNV Funding, just to name a few.
Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, a collection agency may report derogatory information on your credit history for up to 7 years. Collection items usually appear as "collection," "collection/charge-off", "collection/placed for attorney," "placed for collection," or "collection/settled for less." Any of these notations can lower your credit score.
There are basically two ways to remove a collection from your credit report.
- Learn the Credit Laws and Challenge the validity of a collection via a Dispute Letter;
- Hire a professional credit repair Law Firm to Remove Collections.
I tried some do-it-yourself methods when I started fixing my credit, but then ultimately enrolled in the Lexington Law Firm Program who deleted all of my collections including a huge collection from the Asset Acceptance Collection Agency.
How I Erased a $21,438.88 Collection from my Credit Report
I had some major credit problems. Many of my accounts were bought or transferred out to aggressive collection agencies. I first believed that I could learn credit repair on my own, but realized it was quicker to hire a law firm that specializes in credit repair.
I decided to hire the Lexington Law Firm and they immediately began repairing my credit. They got rid of some very stubborn inaccurate credit items including my large credit card collection (they claimed I owed $21,438)! Below is what the bank would see when I applied for a new loan:

Having these questionable items on my credit destroyed my credit score and prevented me from ever getting new credit. The attorneys at Lexington Law worked hard to dispute these items and improve my credit score.
It was exciting to learn that repairing my credit report was not only possible, but also relatively quick. Every few weeks I got a letter in the mail showing that a bad item was erased!
